Senior Quest (Part 1)
Please note: this is a 2-part session.
Want to realize your vision and your dreams in your senior years in a positive, generous, and meaningful way?We will use tools that many of us are familiar with and apply them in a way that transforms your thinking about your “senior” life transforming your thinking into your Senior Quest.

As an example, Mary Ellyn’s Senior Quest is “Seeker of Beauty”. She’s been using this “quest statement” to help her explore many facets of the arts allowing her to think about her “senior life” possibilities in a new, meaningful, and joyful way.

(This is a two part session with a day in-between to think about the first day.)

Three Key Takeaways:
  • Bring joy and fulfillment to your life by embracing a creative senior mindset
  • ”Invent” your senior quest, that focuses on zestful senior life experiences while providing resiliency with the unique obstacles that occur in senior living
  • Sharing this approach with other seniors so that they may strive towards a positive imagined future

Polarity Thinking: Ignite Creativity through Paradox (Morning Session Day 1/3)
What if issues exist that are inherently “unsolvable,” regardless of our best attempts to solve them? Polarity thinking asserts that paradoxical issues not only exist but also present exciting opportunities for creativity, sustainable solutions, and being more effective in complex situations. Polarity thinking is a proven way to use the energy of a universal phenomenon in human experience. You’ll learn to distinguish between either-or problem solving and both-and thinking. You’ll explore how to leverage dynamic tensions such as head and heart, analysis and action, team and individual, and – of course – diverge and converge. Through discussion, activities, and Polarity Mapping, you’ll identify interdependent factors that are constants and indestructible, and learn a deliberate process to manage them. You’ll find that polarity thinking has a wide range of applications, e.g., organizational planning, coaching, customer insights, conflict management, team performance, and individual development. You’ll be able to apply your insights to personal and professional situations as you choose.
  • Key Takeaways:
Expand your thinking through awareness of the phenomenon of interdependent pairs – polarities.
Learn how to maximize your use of polarities over time.
Gain insights about how to recognize and use the polarities of creative thinking.

The Secret Life of Breakthrough Teams: Finding Balance in the Rhythm and Flow of Applied Imagination (Morning Session Day 1/3)
NOE: This program is not for the novice CPS practitioner. Having some experience using Creative Problem Solving will be extremely useful.

Organizations are best positioned to innovate when leaders and teams learn how to cultivate and maximize their diversity of thinking, which requires insight into individual creative motivation and expression. But problem solving is not linear. Neither is teamwork. And the process for each is fraught with stress, tension, and conflict. Why is it so hard for teams to collaborate to breakthrough?

This immersive, 3-day session explores the mindset, skillset, and toolsets of creative thinking that few teams have mastered. We will dive deep into cutting edge research on the linkage between thinking style and behavioral styles. You will also learn how your team’s natural creative rhythm and flow can be enhanced by properly flexing communication styles during the collaborative process. You will come away with a richer understanding of your creative preferences and those of your team, and how those preferences influence or undermine team members’ communication styles. Your team’s success in mastering these models ultimately depends on how willingly your team adapts to the extreme demands of collaborative exploration.

Three Key Takeaways:
  • Radical new teamwork diagnostic model
  • Mindset, skillset, and toolset for applied imagination
  • Strategies for overcoming common collaboration tension points

Design Your Own Process
This session will guide you through the building blocks of creative development processes, through an on-the-spot creation of your own creative process.

Design can add a lot of value to the (triple) bottom line, but only when it is led and managed well. One key driver in leading and managing design is the creative process itself. But like creativity, no two processes are alike. Design process follows both an emotional and rational process. While creatives often do not like to be “constrained” to a particular way of working (i.e. process) by capturing and developing creativity with a formal process in place, output can be achieved more efficiently and more effectively. Even if there is not a well-captured and articulated way of working, there is still an inherent process in place as design is driven by procedures as well as by rituals. While creating and capturing a design process can be a daunting task, we can also apply creativity to designing the design process itself. This interactive hands-on workshop will provide participants to get (more) familiar with design processes, while rethinking and improving their current process. By using standard process components participants can prototype and iterate on their current and desired ways of working, based on their industry, role, company culture, and other influencing factors allowing a creative framework to deliver within clear commercial objectives and constraints.

Three Key Takeaways
  • Learn the basic building blocks of the creative process
  • Be able to prototype and iterate on current and desired ways of working
  • Creatively collaborate among peers

CPS Level 3: Creative Problem Solving Facilitation Techniques (Afternoon Session Day1/3)
Facilitation skills are central to the effective use of CPS, whether in formal meetings or informal brainstorming sessions. This course is designed for those who already know the CPS process in theory and are ready to put it into action as a facilitator.

This course uses peer-group practices to prepare participants for working with actual clients. Characteristics of successful facilitation will be identified and practiced, and you will develop an awareness of your own strengths and areas for development.

Creative Problem Solving Facilitation Techniques is the third of four skills-building courses in Creative Problem Solving. After completing all four CPS courses, you will deepen your ability to facilitate and train others in the CPS process, while also becoming eligible to be considered to lead CPS programs at future CPSIs!

In this course, you will:
  • Review and start to internalize the CPS process through the lens of the facilitator.
  • Experience CPS from several points of view – as a facilitator, as the problem-owner, and as part of the resource group.
  • Understand how to facilitate each step of the CPS process.
  • Receive general facilitation tips that enhance any meeting.
  • Receive individual and group feedback on facilitation skills.
  • Explore and develop your facilitation style.

Leading the Brain Through the Storm
Deferral of judgement and logic is a key principle to creative thinking. There are many tools and techniques that can be utilized to encourage divergent thinking without judgement. One tool, Hypnosis might just be one of the most powerful. Hypnosis can be used to drive creative thinking when the conscious mind steps out of the way and allows for freedom of expression. Through the most basic use of hypnosis, participants in Hypnotivity sessions open their minds to their creative subconscious. Generating innovative solutions to current challenges.

Curious about Hypnosis? In this session we will explore all the myths and beliefs people have about hypnosis. From therapy sessions to comedy stage shows there are many misunderstandings about it. Once we are clear, everyone will have a chance, if you want, to experience the use of the creative subconscious in a hypnotic state of mind. We will also explore “Hypnovation” which is a process that is used as a business strategy. A tool
that allows an organization to tap into the creative subconscious of the individuals within the organization to find solutions and implement innovation. These sessions can ultimately transform the culture of the organization to one that thinks and behaves as innovators. Belief change and cultural change happen when Hypnovation sessions become a part of the organization’s approach to innovation.

If that is not enough we will also explore Mentalism and it’s links to hypnosis and creativity as a rapport builder. You will walk away with some very fun icebreakers.

Polarity Thinking: Ignite Creativity through Paradox (Afternoon Session Day 1/3)
What if issues exist that are inherently “unsolvable,” regardless of our best attempts to solve them?

The Secret Life of Breakthrough Teams: Finding Balance in the Rhythm and Flow of Applied Imagination (Afternoon Session Day 1/3)
NOE: This program is not for the novice CPS practitioner.

Polarity Thinking: Ignite Creativity through Paradox (Morning Session Day 2/3)
What if issues exist that are inherently “unsolvable,” regardless of our best attempts to solve them?

Key Takeaways:
  • Expand your thinking through awareness of the phenomenon of interdependent pairs – polarities.
  • Learn how to maximize your use of polarities over time.
  •  Gain insights about how to recognize and use the polarities of creative thinking.

The Secret Life of Breakthrough Teams: Finding Balance in the Rhythm and Flow of Applied Imagination (Morning Session Day 2/3)
Organizations are best positioned to innovate when leaders and teams learn how to cultivate and maximize their diversity of thinking, which requires insight into individual creative motivation and expression.

7 Habits of Highly Insightful People: New and Improved for 2022
What do the most successful, persuasive and creative people around the world have in common? Insightfulness:  the ability to grasp the hidden nature of people, process and problems via intense curiosity, honed intuition, powerful questions and the endangered art of listening. Insights are the human inspiration for creativity and ideas.  But what is an insight? And how can we discover more of them as an individual or as an organization?

During the first half of the session, we will engage in an interactive share-out to introduce each of the seven habits. Participants will put these new habits in action during the second half of the session via an Insight Scavenger Hunt. We will conclude with a large group discussion to capture how each habit can be applied in your personal and professional lives. Be sure to check out the 7 Habits of Highly Insightful people podcast on Spotify here.

Three Key Takeaways:
In this session you will learn:
  • How an insight is different from a fact
  • Why insights are so critical to the strategy and creative process
  • The seven simple “habits” to help you instantly become more insightful

Game On! (Part 1)
Join in on the fun! This two‐part workshop on “deconstructed gamification” will have you seeing gameplay through a whole new lens! Together, we will explore how off‐the‐shelf games can be used to highlight, challenge, develop, and reinforce those tricky, social‐emotional skills that are absolutely vital to fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, collaboration, and positive change that our society desperately desires to see in the modern workplace.
One of the most challenging aspects of organizational training is keeping your participants fully engaged. This is even tougher to accomplish when you’re tasked with teaching intangible, affective skills that are not easily practiced and highlighted in more “traditional” methods of training. While “Death-by-PowerPoint,” “Click‐to‐Complete” virtual instruction, and Sage‐on‐the‐Stage methods of organizational training are easy for “checking the box,” they’re hardly the most impactful and effective means for improving organizational skills and culture.
No matter where you work, you can use the core principles of gamification to immediately impact your organization. It’s time to clear the table and bust out the family game collection…because it’s game time!

Part 1: Game On! is where we’ll join together for some good, old‐fashioned gameplay and relationship‐building. You’ll be working with other groups of players to share the unique aspects of your game experience, and how they might be applied to a list of affective skills. While this workshop will only be using 1 model in our brief 90 minutes together, You’ll be equipped to apply these same skills to a variety of creativity, innovation, and educational models.

Writing from Without and Within
Where does the creative spark come from? Both from within (such as our imagination and intuition), and from without (the world, the muses, the collisions). This session explores the sources of creative desire and creative action and how to find and tap them. We'll use creative writing as our form of expression, but the learnings apply to any creative endeavor.

Three Key Takeaways:
  • Creative energy and creative action come from both without and within
  • Different forms of awareness are needed to locate the creative forces within ourselves and without, in the world
  • We can deliberately cultivate these forces and use them in our creative process

Journaling with Intentional Imperfection
"This is such a pretty journal, I hate to mess it up."
"Morning pages are awesome, but I can't sustain that as a practice."
"I would love to start a bullet journal, but I don't know the process."
"I haven't finished the journals I've started, I can't start another one."

Okay, enough. Just stop it.

Listen, you probably know the benefits of journaling (spoiler alert: reduced stress, increased well-being, goal attainment, distance from negative thoughts, self-reflection and growth, etc., etc.). You likely buy into the idea of journaling if you're even reading this workshop description. So, let's focus on overcoming the common barriers to journaling and address the challenges perfectionism and our inner-critics throw our way by creating an Imperfect Journal ... then starting to use it imperfectly.

Three Key Takeaways:
  • We'll discuss the many, MANY types of journals and what we like about each (I'll even show some of mine, from a distance of course to protect my privacy)
  • You'll create an imperfect journal (feel free to bring your favorite craft supplies; otherwise, freely use the ones provided)
  • I'll show you how to set your Imperfect Journal up mindfully to remind yourself why you are choosing to journal this way and how to best journal this way

The Life-Changing Power of Curiosity
Follow your curiosity to create foreseeable and unimaginable possibilities for yourself and others!

This interactive session is based on Van's TEDx Talk, recalling a personal family story of how following curiosity in a refugee camp created an unimaginable future for her family and thousands of Vietnamese immigrants over the last four decades. Using creative tools, we will bring to the surface something you have been curious about, but maybe have pushed aside because of challenges, fear of failure, or fear of success! We will then walk through the framework of "following curiosity," "asking what if?," and "taking small steps" to create possibilities -- even possibilities we cannot see!

We will conclude by creating an ARTifact to represent the wildest possibility that can be imagined if you choose to follow your curiosity.

Three Key Takeaways:
  • A simple framework for recognizing your curiosities, and following them, without overwhelm. A formula that can then be shared through your work.
  • For those who get easily overwhelmed, learn the neuroscience behind taking small steps to shift your mindset; so you can move forward and follow those curiosities!
  • An opportunity to use your imagination in a hands-on art project.

The Social Justice League 2 - D.C Universe Edition (Diversity & Creativity)
The Social Justice League 2 - DC Universe Edition is where Diversity and Creativity meet. Often times topics surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion can vary in comfort levels due to how the information is being delivered, how individual creativity is expressed culturally, understanding the concepts, and most of all knowing how to strategically put it into practice. The D.C Universe will give participants creative tools to create awareness, understanding, and put DEI initiatives into practice. The goal here is to bring fresh eyes of imagination to conventional ideas.

Three Key Takeaways:
  • You will take part in workshop activities where you will be able to obtain a working understanding of diversity and how it can be applied creatively for ingenuity and productivity
  • You will identify your own unique cognitive strengths and how they can be incorporated as Social Justice tools within your organizations
  • You will acquire the creative tools necessary to cultivate an inclusive environment using Cognitive Diversity Appreciation simulated activities and strategies

From Burnout to Shining Bright: How Creativity Can Help Flip the Switch
In our ever-changing world of “new normals”—with new Covid-19 variants, stock market tumbles, rising inflation, and global conflict—we are continually faced with adjusting (and readjusting) to what life looks like. The net impact of these forces has shaped the way we view our work—and ourselves… and not always for the better.

In this presentation, we will share the results of a proprietary study from Seed Strategy. We looked at the impact of workplace burnout in America, how it has impacted us, both mentally and emotionally, and how individuals have found themselves coping with the stress. To conclude, we recommend what leaders can do—specifically using applied creativity principles and tools—to support individuals feeling burnout, or to help avoid burnout altogether moving forward.

Did someone say LEGO®?
Discover the excitement of building playful connections, one LEGO® brick at a time!
Did you know research has identified that a lack of human connections can be more harmful to your health than smoking or high blood pressure? Did you know our social connections can improve your self-esteem, increase your ability to build empathy for others, help you to regulate emotions, lower your anxiety and depression, and even improve your immune system?

Humans have an inherent need for meaningful human connections and a sense of belonging. Since 2003, our team at Strategic Play Global has been taking LEGO® bricks into corporations, businesses, governments,
non-profits, and communities around the world. We have connected people with strategy, brands, ideas, solutions, neighbors, teams, their own families, and most importantly, themselves.

The CPSI Conference is one of the best places to make meaningful connections and find those best friends you just haven’t met yet. Where might these new CPSI friendships take you? Maybe around the world! Now is the perfect time to connect your hands, mind, and heart by picking up some bricks in this fun-filled spotlight and consider the infinite ways you might connect. Let’s connect over the click of the bricks!

Polarity Thinking: Ignite Creativity through Paradox (Morning Session Day 3/3)
What if issues exist that are inherently “unsolvable,” regardless of our best attempts to solve them?

Key Takeaways:
  • Expand your thinking through awareness of the phenomenon of interdependent pairs – polarities.
  • Learn how to maximize your use of polarities over time.
  •  Gain insights about how to recognize and use the polarities of creative thinking.

The Secret Life of Breakthrough Teams: Finding Balance in the Rhythm and Flow of Applied Imagination (Morning Session Day 3/3)
Organizations are best positioned to innovate when leaders and teams learn how to cultivate and maximize their diversity of thinking, which requires insight into individual creative motivation and expression.

Art of the Decision
Most people are looking for an edge in their decision-making. We spend time clarifying the challenges in our workplace and in our lives, developing ideas, and then planning for action only to find ourselves stalled or back at square one just a bit frustrated. Wouldn’t it be great if there existed a resource that would yield more novel and useful ideas than you could have ever imagined? Creativity expert and arts professional Anthony Billoni developed and tested a process over the last ten years that will guide you toward this treasure trove of ideas by experiencing art like never before.

During this session, Anthony will introduce three methods of experiencing art. In addition, he will facilitate companion-learning experiences using tools and techniques from the Osborn-Parnes Creative Problem Solving Process. The goal of this experience is for you to have a deeper personal connection to art – leading to a realization that can not only provide sublime inspiration, that inspiration can be directed to opening a floodgate of new ideas needed for a business or personal challenge. You will be comfortable with your own impressions gleaned during your museum visit. You will also take away a basic understanding of the Creative Problem Solving process and use the tools and techniques to capture and process your impressions, further
personalizing your art experience.

Key Takeaways:
  • You will learn a new way to increase idea production
  • You will increase your level of aesthetic engagement with art and viewing the world
  • You will never look at art in the same way again

Polarity Thinking: Ignite Creativity through Paradox (Afternoon Session Day 3/3)
What if issues exist that are inherently “unsolvable,” regardless of our best attempts to solve them?

Key Takeaways:
  • Expand your thinking through awareness of the phenomenon of interdependent pairs – polarities.
  • Learn how to maximize your use of polarities over time.
  •  Gain insights about how to recognize and use the polarities of creative thinking.

The Secret Life of Breakthrough Teams: Finding Balance in the Rhythm and Flow of Applied Imagination (Afternoon Session Day 3/3)
Organizations are best positioned to innovate when leaders and teams learn how to cultivate and maximize their diversity of thinking, which requires insight into individual creative motivation and expression.

The stories we are told and tell ourselves influence how we go about our daily life. If we have integrated the story “I don’t do enough” or “I’m better than ____” we reinforce it in our choices, how we talk about ourselves and others, and can ultimately lead lives that are disconnected from reality. By shifting our language we can shift the trajectory of our lives for the outcomes we would prefer.

Three Key Takeaways:
1. attention shapes perception
2. patterns of thought and emotions become habituated in our lives, becoming aware of the patterns is true mindfulness

Building Your Personal Resilience Using CPS (Full Day Program)
Employee creative problem solving and resilience are considered to be amongst the most important skills and abilities sought by employers and the global coronavirus pandemic has only made the need for them more vital. This session is designed to offer a practical knowledge of the creative problem solving process and skills as well as those resilience characteristics which augment stronger and more effective personal management of workplace and career-related stressors and adversity. Within each individual is the capacity for stronger resilience, and this experiential workshop demonstrates how more effectively tapping into their own creative capabilities enables them to better manage the challenges and issues they face at work and in their career.

Three Key Takeaways:
  • Experience being facilitated through the applied creative problem solving process on a personal resilience issue of their own.
  • Ability to identify any tacit thought patterns and characteristics which may hinder or facilitate their resilience efforts.
  • Recommended approaches to continue to practice the process post-session."
